Mashed Sweet Potatoes
For a more rustic presentation, serve sweet potatoes in other ways: with honey, orange juice, sour cream and nutmeg. Instead of roasting the potatoes, cut them into pieces and cook until tender. Honey expresses the sweetness, while sour cream adds cream and smoothes the mash without making it rich. Orange juice (best freshly squeezed) gives a brilliant citrus flavor, which stands out from the earthy sweetness of the potato. Add a pinch of nutmeg to the holidays. The result is hearty, soothing and perfectly seasonal – an excellent dish for your Christmas menu.
